To all founding
members of the Board Of Governors,
The Vision Health Research Council.
Dear friends,
You had elegantly
accepted some years ago to support the creation of the Vision Health
Research Council. The prestige of that support has made possible a unique
realisation in the history of Vision Health Care in Canada. We have
united in a common undertaking more than 300 investigators in over 25
scientific specialties belonging to as many University Departments across
Canada.
This has
allowed us to unite in trying to obtain for Vision the legitimate representation
it deserves in the Canadian Institutes for Health Research. We have
not succeeded as well as we wanted but are nevertheless in a better
position than ever to continue and fulfill our mission.
In order
to legitimize the Council in its representation of the Vision Investigators
and following two meetings in Montreal and Toronto we identified 36
representatives of major research sectors. This group was formed into
a Provisory Scientific Advisory Board which will be instrumental in
defining the democratic structure of the Council. This body will replace
the Board of Governors. You will be able to follow the future activities
of the Council on its Web site, (VHRC.NET) actually in reconstruction.
You will
understand the necessity of putting in the hands of the Vision Investigators
themselves the conduct of their projects for the future. It is with
gratitude that I personnally and in the name of all want to thank those
who were our founding Governors :
Christian
Casanova, Stuart Coupland, Max Cynader, Howard Dickson, Pierre Labelle,
Ian MacDonald, Jack Rootman, Jacob G. Sivak, William K. Stell, Graham
Trope, Duncan Anderson, Hélène Boisjoly, Alphonse Carew,
Michel Clouthier, Alan Cruess, Don Farrell, Keith Gordon, Élise
Héon, Daniel M. O'Brien, Hélène Plante, Alain Rousseau,
Pierre Simonet, Graham Strong, Marian Zaharia.
It is with
some nostalgia but with much gratitude that we want to thank those who
believed in our action at the onset. Time flows and change revitalizes.
I have myself handed my succession to our energetic new President, Dr.
Steinbach.
I join your
ranks in wishing the Council all the success we hoped for in founding
it.
Very sincerely
yours,
Jean Réal
Brunette
