The incidence of vision loss in Canada is growing at an alarming rate,
mostly because of age-related diseases with no cures. Some have treatments,
but many people will go on to blindness with conditions such as macular
degeneration, glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy.
Research into these
and other blinding, disabling conditions must be encouraged and enhanced.
To that end, the Vision Health Research Council is working to link researchers
across Canada to develop an integrated research community capable of responding
to the expanding health research needs of our people.
